Bittersweet:
Bittersweet is a plant with fruit named Mako Dana. This plant originates from America, Canada, and Asia. The stems of this plant are used in many herbal medicines because of their therapeutic properties. However, the fruit and leaves are considered poisonous. This natural herb is used for the treatment of skin conditions such as itchy skin, skin rashes, eczema, acne, as well as warts. This plant also has an anti-rheumatic property which is good for the treatment of mako dana for weight loss, joint pains, muscle stiffness, and other types of pains.
The sedative nature of this plant makes it the perfect calming agent. mako dana benefits contain strong anti-inflammatory properties, it has been used as an herbal anti-inflammatory medicine in Unani Tibb. Where it can treat a number of diseases, it also has some side effects; therefore it is suggested to ask your physician first before getting its dose.
The whole plant is alterative, antiperiodic, constipative, demulscent, diaphoretic, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, febrifuge, hepatoprotective, hydragogue, narcotic, sedative and tonic. It is effective in the treatment of cirrhosis of the liver and spleen and is also credited with emollient, antiseptic and laxative properties. It has a protective effect on the liver and has shown hepatoprotective activity in cases of toxicity induced by drugs and chemicals. Useful in chronic enlargement of liver (hepatomegaly).
Also useful in heart diseases, skin diseases, piles, gonorrhoea and inflammatory swellings. Useful in cough and consumption.
Adenitis, an inflammation of the glands can be cured with Bittersweet for weight loss. Physicians in the past used this for the treatment of ophthalmic or amaurosis diseases. Some other studies also have shown its positive effects on the treatment of COLD. On the other hand, Mako Dana has the traits that can alleviate infectious skin diseases such as, acne, Impetigo, herpes, herpes zoster as well as skin tears.
Recommended Dosage: 5 to 7 g powder of dried whole plant.
Contraindication: This herb is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation.
